Refugee Week
Our school welcomes students, families and community members from all cultural backgrounds. We appreciate difference and diversity and aim to provide a culturally inclusive and responsive environment that benefits all students.
Our teaching and learning programs develop intercultural understanding, promote positive relationships and enable all students to participate as active Australian and global citizens. Our school fosters student wellbeing and community harmony by implementing anti-racism and anti-discrimination strategies that encourage engagement by parents and carers from all backgrounds.
This year each student created a work to be included as part of a whole school collaborative artwork. A celebration at Ashfield Public School was held, including a special assembly and artwork unveiling. Parents were invited to attend the event and view the beautiful Ashfield Public School art work.
Our whole school collaborative artwork is titled Carry On, inspired by the children’s book The Suitcase by Chris Naylor-Ballesteros. The sculptural installation reflects themes of resilience, memory, and shared journeys and incorporates the unique artistic creations from each of our 485 students. Refugee Week is an important part of our school calendar, as we recognise the contributions of our migrant community and reflect on the ongoing struggles faced by displaced people around the world.
