Collaborative classrooms
The collaborative Classrooms initiative is a school-wide, collective responsibility that enables students who experience disability to access and participate in education on the same basis as other students at the school as per the Disability Standards.
Collaborative Classrooms provides a well-managed learning environment so that students enrolled in a Support Unit class receive intensive support while learning alongside students who do not experience a disability.
Establishing and growing Collaborative Classrooms has improved effective practices that positively impact on the learning progress in many ways including:
creating shared beliefs and understanding that all teachers can engage students with disability and teach to high standards, and that students with disability will connect, thrive and succeed within the rich social environment of a larger student cohort.
engaging teachers in professional development to develop skills to adjust and accommodate students who experience disability.
developing genuine collaboration and partnership with families to build their confidence in an inclusive education system that can successfully provide their child with personalised learning and support including nurturing wellbeing, progressing academic outcomes and developing a personal and social capability.
