Gifted and talented students have cognitive and emotional abilities that allow them to learn much more quickly than their age peers.
Gifted and talented students frequently require less explanation, fewer routines and reduced time for revision. As with students of all ability level, deep knowledge and understanding is facilitated through discussion, critical thinking, applying technology group work, exploration of issues and emphasis on "guidance" or discovery learning rather than "direct instruction".
Every child, every opportunity is Ashfield Public School's commitment to providing diverse learning initiatives across the school to cater for individual students including children identified as Gifted and Talented.
Alongside classroom programs, this commitment finds its focus as Triple E (Engagement, Extension and Enrichment).
An individual student's participation in a particular Triple E initiative may be based on one or more of the following criteria:
- teacher observation
- assessment data
- student interest
- parent request
- availability of spaces
